Nanostructured cobalt oxide clusters in mesoporous silica as efficient oxygen-evolving catalysts.

چکیده
Light, inexpensive, effective: Nanostructured Co(3)O(4) clusters (see picture) in mesoporous silica are the first example of a nanometer-sized multielectron catalyst made of a first-row transition-metal oxide that evolves oxygen from water efficiently. The nanorod bundle structure of the catalyst results in a very large surface area, an important factor contributing to the high turnover frequency.

Generation of a solar fuel on a terawatt scale requires that water is used as electron source. Catalysts for the fourelectron oxidation of water to oxygen need not only to fulfill the rate and size requirements for keeping up with the solar flux, but must be robust and made of earth abundant elements. Benefiting from explorations of first row transition metal oxides as O2 evolving electrocataly...
متن کاملMesoporous metal-nitrogen-doped carbon electrocatalysts for highly efficient oxygen reduction reaction.
A family of mesoporous nonprecious metal (NPM) catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acidic media, including cobalt-nitrogen-doped carbon (C-N-Co) and iron-nitrogen-doped carbon (C-N-Fe), was prepared from vitamin B12 (VB12) and the polyaniline-Fe (PANI-Fe) complex, respectively. Silica nanoparticles, ordered mesoporous silica SBA-15, and montmorillonite were used as templates for ac...
متن کاملProgress of the Application of Mesoporous Silica-Supported Heteropolyacids in Heterogeneous Catalysis and Preparation of Nanostructured Metal Oxides
Mesoporous silica molecular sieves are a kind of unique catalyst support due to their large pore size and high surface area. Several methods have been developed to immobilize heteropolyacids (HPAs) inside the channels of these mesoporous silicas. The mesoporous silica-supported HPA materials have been widely used as recyclable catalysts in heterogeneous systems. They have shown high catalytic a...

Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines are oxidized to the corresponding pyridine derivatives using oxygen or air and a mixture of the manganese and cobalt salts of parninobenzoic acid supported on silica gel as the catalysts. Reactions are clean and the catalysts can be recovered easily and reused repeatedly.
